We, the adult leaders, parents and volunteers of Troop 270, are each the products of our varied pasts. We bring with us our personal histories, education, strengths and even our failures as instructional tools to share with our young charges. We do so confidently and with the belief that each of us has something to teach.
The Scouting program is much more than campfires and merit badges. It is more than ceremonies and oaths and laws. It is more than a week at summer camp and a trek through the woods.
Scouting is a friendship spanning decades. It is teaching and being taught. It is acceptance and exploration of self. It is stepping outside of our Comfort Zone and finding a friend waiting on the other side. It is learning to recognize our own potential and stepping out on faith. Scouting is total and unconditional inclusiveness that is not bound by race, religion, gender or socioeconomic background. All are welcome and equally footed on the path to self-discovery and success.
Our Mission as leaders and volunteers is a multi-faceted jewel forged by the Scouting ideals and the trust we share within our Troop family:
Lord Robert Baden-Powell once said, “Teach Scouts not how to get a living, but how to live.”
This too, is our Mission—to lead by example and to let our actions echo the words of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.
